Gary Skyner

Gary Skyner

Do not miss this opportunity to book the 3 times winner of the prestigious Merseyside’s best comic of the year- Gary Skyner.

Gary has become one of the country’s best loved comedians, having appeared at magnificent venues such as the Grosvenor House Hotel, the Central Pier in Blackpool, venues In Dubai, Portugal and a regular performer in Benidorm.

Gary always leaves his audience with tears in their eyes and gagging for more.

Over the past few years Gary has also become a much sought after motivational speaker drawing upon his life’s experiences to illustrate his motto “IF YOU BELIEVE IT YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT!”

GARY’S STORY

He was born on 5th November 1959. His devoted mother Frances was told that if he survived child birth, Gary was unlikely to survive to the age of 30 and that he would lead a restricted and poor quality of life. Gary was born with no elbows, wrists or thumbs and for the first 14 years of his life he spent weeks at a time at Alder Hey Children’s Hopital having operations, skin grafts and blood transfusions.

Gary was cruelly abused and bullied at school and after getting involved in many fights, some of which he won but most of which he lost, he found that the easiest way to deflect a bully was through quickness of wit. And so an incredible comedy career was launched. Gary was determined to be known as “Gary the funny lad” and not “Gary the disabled lad!”
After starting out in local pubs, before long Gary was being booked for comedy gigs.

Some of Gary’s achievements and accolades over the years were becoming an author, winner of the prestigious Merseyside’s best comic of the year three years running, becoming a paralegal in a top Liverpool law firm and even learning how to fly a plane.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER

His awe inspiring tale of triumph over tragedy touches the heart and lifts the spirits.

Gary’s unique presentation is not your run of the mill motivational speech. He deals with real life: not as a superstar, athlete or famous mountaineer but as a man who started out in life facing one obstacle after another and who has taken every knock, setback and hurdles put before him and triumphed due to his unflinching determination and persistence.

Gary’s motivational presentation doesn’t show a bitter man but a man standing up asking people to “do the right thing”.

As a professional comedian, the speech is delivered with humorous anecdotes and a look at how the comedic approach to things can often win over the toughest of battles.

Earlier this year a play based on the life and struggles of Gary Skyner was written by Steve Bird. It is called Mothers Ruin.

It has just been voted the best drama at the Liverpool fringe awards 2022.
